Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash said that the auction of telecom spectrum was concluded on Tuesday. A total of 855.60 MHz spectrum worth Rs 77,814.80 crore was purchased in two days. Bharti Airtel has acquired Radio Waves worth Rs 18,699 crore in the latest auction of spectrum. The company has acquired 355.45 MHz spectrum, mid band and 2,300 MHz band.
For the auction that started on Monday, spectrum of more than 2,250 MHz, which contains telecom signals, is in seven bands, these were offered at a reserve or starting price of around Rs 4 lakh crore. The bids were found in 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2300 MHz. But there were no takers for the airwaves in the premium 700 and 2500 MHz bands.
About a third of the spectrum being auctioned is in the 700 MHz band, which was completely unsold during the 2016 auction. Telecom companies say that due to this new purchase, there will be success in providing 5G services in future. Now services of companies in cities will be able to give good coverage inside the houses and also in the buildings. Apart from this, telecom services from this spectrum will also be better in villages.
No bids were received from the companies in the 700 MHz band, as this band does not become useful for them financially. In this, 2,308.80 mogahtz spectrum of four lakh crore rupees was put up for auction in a total of seven bands.
