Finance Desk – Shankar IAS Academy has been fined Rs 5 lakh for making false claims in their advertisements. They said a lot of their students passed the UPSC Civil Service Exam in 2022 after taking their courses.
However, they didn’t clearly show which courses these students took. This made it seem like all these students succeeded because of buying their paid courses, which isn’t true.
They claimed 336 students passed, but only had details for 333. Many of these students took free or cheaper courses, but the academy didn’t mention this in the ads.
This kind of misleading advertising can trick people, especially those studying for UPSC exams, into thinking they need to buy expensive courses to pass.
The CCPA, a consumer protection group, fined the academy to emphasize the need for honest advertising. They want to make sure that ads give clear and true information so people can make smart choices based on facts.
