Finance Desk – An NRI living in London bought two flats from Godrej Properties but ended up in trouble when asked to pay most of the money sooner than planned. When the NRI couldn’t pay on time, Godrej canceled the flat bookings and didn’t return the money.
This led the NRI to take the issue to court. The court found that Godrej sold the flats to someone else for more money and hadn’t followed the right steps in canceling the original booking.
The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) decided that Godrej should return the money because they didn’t cancel the booking properly. The final decision by the MahaRERA appeals tribunal was that Godrej must give back Rs 1.26 crore, which includes the original money paid plus interest.
They also ordered Godrej to handle the paperwork needed to officially cancel the sale and help the NRI get back any government fees paid.
