New Delhi: The government has banned the export of many medicines amid the rising outbreak of Corona virus. The stock of many essential medicines is about to run out and the supply of raw materials used to make medicines from China is disrupted. In view of this, the government has decided to ban the export of 26 medicines, so that there is no shortage of medicines in the country at present.

The government has identified important and essential medicines that may run out of stock. These include antibiotics like amoxicillin, moxifloxacin, doxycycline, and the TB drug rifampicin. The raw material for preparing these drugs comes from China. But due to corona there is a danger on the supply. Of these 54 drugs were reviewed, of which 32 are highly essential medicines. Of these, 15 fall under non-critical category.

The ICMR was asked to review such drugs, for which APIs (active pharma ingredients) India is completely dependent on China. But worryingly, there is no alternative to the 32 drugs included in the review, which has increased the possibility of trouble.
