Finance Desk – The government’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched 19 places linked to some big sellers on Amazon and Flipkart in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Panchkula. They are checking if these sellers broke rules about foreign companies in India.
The searches are part of an investigation that began because of complaints that Amazon and Flipkart were not following foreign investment rules. These companies are accused of setting unfair prices and favoring some sellers over others, which could harm other sellers and small shops.
The ED focused on the sellers using these platforms, not the offices of Amazon or Flipkart. This action follows earlier investigations by the Competition Commission of India, which found that these companies were unfairly favoring certain sellers, harming competition.
A leader from a traders’ group in India supported the raids, saying they were a good step toward addressing ongoing issues with these e-commerce platforms not following rules.
