New Delhi: More than 1,600 Indian companies in the country received USD 1 billion foreign direct investment (FDI) from China during April 2016 to March 2020.
This information has been given in the government data. The figure was given in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The government was questioned whether it was a fact that Indian companies, particularly start-ups, have been heavily invested by Chinese agencies.
According to the data, more than 1,600 companies received FDI from China of 102.25 billion dollars ($ 1.02 billion) during the period April 2016 to March 2020. These companies were in 46 regions.
The data shows that the automobile industry received a maximum FDI of $ 172 million from China. While the service sector received FDI of $ 139.96 million. In a written reply, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur said that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs does not keep track of investments made by Chinese agencies.
