Cricket superstar Virat Kohli and his wife Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma have invested Rs 2.2 crore in a startup. This startup is from the insurance sector, started by Canadian billionaire businessman Prem Vats. Its name is ‘Digit’. This information has been received from Business Intelligence Platform Paper VC.
Digit has recently raised $ 8.4 million fund. In the process of raising this fund, Virat and Anushka made such a huge investment in the company. Talking about the contribution of both, Virat has invested 1.73 crore while Anushka has invested Rs 43 lakh. Both of these together hold 0.25% in the company.
The three-year-old digital company has raised funds once before. This time round ended in January. A91 Partners, Farring Capital and TVS Capital invested in the company. The company’s founder and chairman Kamesh Goyal had told that equity capital would be used to follow the guidelines of IRDA and keep the foreign stake in the limit.
According to IRDA, Digit is one of the general insurance companies that is growing rapidly. Its premium income in the financial year 2018-19 was $ 172 million. In the current financial year, Goyal said, this figure could cross $ 32.5 billion.
