The stock markets closed at record highs on Wednesday. The Sensex gained 316.02 points to end at 43,593.67 and the Nifty closed at 12749.15, showing a gain of 118.05 points. Tata Steel shares were the biggest gainers on the Sensex by 7.39 per cent. Axis Bank shares rose more than 4 percent. Shares of 25 out of 30 Sensex companies closed in the green mark. IndusInd Bank shares fell the most by 5.62 per cent.
All other sectoral indices, except PSU bank shares, closed in the green mark on the Nifty. The maximum gain of 3.59 percent was recorded in Pharma shares. Hindalco, Tata Steel, Dr. Reddy’s, Axis Bank, Eicher Motors emerged as the top gainers, while IndusInd Bank, Reliance, Titan, Asian Paint, Britannia were the top losers.
The stock market opened up on Wednesday morning. The Sensex gained 166.41 points to 43,444.06 and the Nifty gained 49.5 points to open at an all-time high of 12,680.60. The stock markets have been trending steadily since the Pfizer vaccine claimed to be more than 90 percent effective.
On Tuesday, the stock markets recorded record closings for the second consecutive day. The Sensex gained 680 points to close at the level of 43278. The Nifty closed at the level of 12631 with a gain of 170 points. Bank and financial stocks saw a spurt on Tuesday. At the same time, IT and Pharma shares have seen a decline.
European markets closed sharply in global markets. Asian markets are also trading in the green mark, although US markets have closed with a fall.
