Reliance Jio and Airtel have brought new tariff packages for fixed line broadband. Their price is lower than before, although the data speed has also decreased. Jio’s monthly price starts at Rs 399 and Airtel’s Rs 499. But the existing customers’ monthly bills will not be cut. For this, they have to use internet speed less than the current speed.
Earlier, the initial monthly tariff package for Jio FBB connection was Rs 699, with 100Mbps speed and 150GB data available. Now Jio is offering the initial package for 399 rupees but the speed will be 30 Mbps. However, the data will remain unlimited. So, if an existing customer is with a plan of Rs 699 and it comes for Rs 399, then he will have to use a much lower speed. Unlimited data (around 3000GB) at a low price does not benefit much, because customers hardly finish 150GB of data.
Similarly, the price of the first monthly plan of Bharti Airtel used to start from Rs 799 which came with 100 Mbps and 150GB data. The monthly plan starts at Rs 499 in the new plan, which offers unlimited data (about 3000GB) but the speed is less than 40 Mbps.
Airtel’s most popular plan is currently a monthly charge of Rs 999, which comes with 300GB data and 200Mbps speed. So, even in this, existing customers who use 100 Mbps or 200 Mbps speed, it does not seem right for them to choose new plans for low speed.
