New Delhi: The government has decided to gear up to reduce dependence on China and other countries in the matter of medicines. Significantly, due to the situation arising due to Corona virus in China, the government has had to take this decision. Health workers and medical experts have for a long time been asking the government to reduce dependence on drugs in China.
The current situation has affected the production of medicines in China. Due to this, India is not getting many essential medicines from there. India currently relies on China for everything from paracetamol to important anti-biotics.
The government has decided that now the country should be made self-sufficient in the matter of essential medicines. NITI Aayog, Ministry of Health and several departments met recently in this matter. It was decided that a number of facilities and concessions would be provided to pharmaceutical companies to set up new pharma parks in the country. Concessions in environmental regulations were also considered, if required. It was also decided that states would be asked to give land to the pharmaceutical companies for pharma parks as soon as possible.
