A recent study conducted by Visa, the global digital payments services company, revealed that a staggering 95% of Indian travelers prefer using credit cards for seamless transactions during international travel. The ‘Global Travel Intentions Study 2023’ sheds light on the key factors influencing these preferences and offers insights into the evolving travel and tourism industry trends.

    Key Findings:

    • Australia, the UAE, the US, and Canada remain the top international preferences for Indian travelers.
    • Travel miles, cashback, rewards, high acceptance, favorable foreign exchange rates, and high spending limits are key factors driving credit card usage during international travel.
    • 99% of travelers, including credit, debit, and prepaid card users, prefer using cards during their international journeys.
    • The study identifies sustainability, robust infrastructure, and experiential travel as key drivers in the travel sector.
    • 86% of respondents are highly interested in eco-friendly and sustainable travel options.
    • 86% prefer hotels, 30% opt for bed and breakfast setups, and 24% choose hostels as their accommodation choices.
    • 70% of travelers choose a destination based on leisure activities available, with entertainment, shopping options, and local food being significant factors.
    • Relaxation remains the primary driver for travel (26%), and it continues to be the top motivation (51%) for the next trip.

As credit cards continue to dominate the international travel landscape for Indian consumers, the study serves as a valuable resource for industry stakeholders, offering insights into emerging trends and preferences.
