New Delhi: Coal supply to the power sector of the public sector company Coal India declined by 6.8 percent to 37.79 million tonnes in the April-January period of the current financial year. In the same period of last financial year, the company’s coal supply to the power sector was 40.56 million tonnes.
According to official figures, Coal India’s coal supply to power companies increased by 2.9 percent to 4.32 million tonnes in January from 4.2 million tonnes in January of the previous financial year. Singareni Collieries Company Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, supplied 4.40 million tonnes of coal in the April-January period, which is 2.6 percent less than the 4.52 million tonnes of coal supplied during the same period of the previous financial year.
In the same period of the previous financial year 2018-19, the company’s coal production was 46.96 million tonnes. However, Coal India had estimated coal production to be 75 million tonnes in the next financial year. Coal Minister Prahlada Joshi had said that Coal India aims to reach one billion tonnes of coal production by the financial year 2023-24.
