    Car sales rose in September

    Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) sales rose 30.8 percent to 1,60,442 units in September. The company sold 1,22,640 vehicles in September 2019. The company said in a statement that the sales performance in September should be looked at in terms of the lower base effect of last year. Maruti’s sales in the domestic market increased by 32.2 percent to 1,52,608 units from 1,15,452 units in the same month a year ago.

    September Sales of the company’s mini cars Alto and S-Preso increased by 35.7 per cent to 27,246 units as against 20,085 units in the same month last year. In the compact segment, sales of the company’s Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire models increased by 47.3 percent to 84,213 units from 57,179 units in September 2019. However, mid-size sedan Ciaz sales fell by 10.6 per cent to 1,534 units during the same period from 1,715 units in the same month a year ago.

    Sales of Maruti’s utility vehicles Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga rose 10.1 percent to 23,699 units. The figure was 21,526 units in the same month a year ago. In September, the company’s exports also grew by 9 percent to 7,834 units, compared to 7,188 units in the same month last year. The company said its total sales in the second quarter stood at 3,93,130 units, a 16.2 percent increase over last year’s weak base effect.
