New Delhi: In the latest measure to combat coronavirus, the government on Thursday (March 19) issued an advisory saying that no scheduled international commercial passenger flights shall be allowed to land in India from March 22. The Indian Railways and civil aviation shall suspend all concessional travel except students, patients and differently-abled, the circular said. “State governments shall issue appropriate directions so that all citizens above 65 (other than for medical assistance) except for public representatives/govt servants/medical professionals are advised to remain at home,” said the statement. Domestic air passenger traffic in February increased by 8.98 percent to 1.236 crore as compared to the same period last year, according to data released on Wednesday by aviation regulator DGCA. However, the rise in the number of domestic air passengers for January was just 2.2 percent when compared with January 2019 figures. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data, passenger load factors of all major airlines — Air India, SpiceJet, GoAir, IndiGo, AirAsia India and Vistara — increased in February as compared to January. Passenger load factor measures the seat capacity utilisation of the airline.
