Apple has been fined $ 113 million (Rs 838.95 crore). The fine is on 33 US States and the District of Columbia charges. The company is accused of slowing down old iPhones to hide battery-related issues, so that users can buy new devices. State officials gave this information. In 2016, Apple calmly updated the models of iPhone 6, 7 and SE so that the chip speed is suppressed and the battery of the device does not send an increase in power to the phone processor and the phone does not stop suddenly.
The States argued that Apple acted fraudulently and that it should have replaced the battery or disclosed the case. According to an Arizona court filing, millions of users were affected by the power shutoff. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in an interview that his coworkers and they themselves want to take care of these big tech companies and that they hope this million-dollar decision will catch their attention. He further said that companies cannot be fraudulent and cannot hide things.
Apple denied any wrongdoing and did not respond to this settlement. For the next three years, Apple has agreed to provide correct information about iPhone power management, software update notes and iPhone settings on its website. Arizona said that Apple’s current options are sufficient. Settlement with the states is yet to be approved by the court.
