Amazon, the e-commerce giant, has refused to appear before the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Data Protection Bill on October 28. The panel’s chairperson and BJP MP said on Friday that it was a breach of privilege. Lekhi said that the panel is unanimous in its decision that the government can be suggested to take revenge action against the e-commerce company. She said that Amazon has refused to appear before the panel on October 28 and if no person appears before the panel on behalf of the e-commerce company, it would be considered a breach of privilege.
Meanwhile, Facebook policy head Ankhi Das appeared before the panel on the issue of data security on Friday. Representatives of Facebook India were asked some tough and investigative questions by the panel members. Facebook gave a detailed presentation to the Joint Committee on the Personal Data Protection Bill.
During the meeting, a member suggested that the social media company should not take information from the data of its users for commercial benefits of advertisers. The panel has summoned micro-blogging Twitter on 28 October and Google and Paytm executives on 29 October.

According to the notice issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the representatives of Facebook India were asked to appear before the Joint Committee on Friday. Lekhi had said that whoever would be needed, be it a person or any entity, would be asked to appear before the panel on the issue of data security and privacy and their social media platform would be thoroughly investigated by the panel.
