Mumbai: It was the fourth straight day of gains for the benchmark indices, supported by strong global cues.

European markets were trading with gains of nearly 2 per cent, while Dow Futures were pointing to higher openings by at least 1 per cent. The Nifty closed the day higher by 160 points at 10,471 points.

Shares in Larsen and Toubro, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, NTPC and Power Grid were among the top gainers in trade. Among the Nifty stocks that lost ground in trade were Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, Vedanta and Maruti Suzuki.

The Bank Nifty saw strong gains in trade today and ended higher by almost 2.5 per cent, thanks to a rally in the stock of some heavyweights like ICICI Bank.

Page Industries saw its stock fall after the company’s net profit was down 58.7% to Rs 31 crore. Shares in Indian Bank jumped more than 7 per cent, despite a widening of net loss. Net loss of the bank increased to Rs 217.73 crore from Rs 189.77 crores.

Media stocks saw a good solid rally led by gains in Zee Entertainment, Network 18 and Jagran Prakashan. Meanwhile, most of the European markets were trading with strong gains.
