New Delhi: The central government has decided to increase the minimum support price (MSP) of milling copra by Rs 439 for the 2020 season and by Rs 380 per quintal in the MSP of Bal copra. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
After the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Central Government has increased the support price of milling copra of milling quality by Rs 439 per quintal for crop season 2020 to Rs 9,960 per quintal for crop season 2020. While its support price was Rs 9,521 per quintal last year. Similarly, the support price of Bal Copra has been increased by Rs 380 per quintal for the crop season 2020 and fixed the support price at Rs 10,300 per quintal.
Copra is produced mainly in the states of South India, Prakash Javadekar said that 30 lakh farmers will be benefited by this. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Association of India Limited (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers Union of India Limited (NCCF) procure copra at support prices from farmers in coconut growing states. India is number one in copra production and productivity in the world.
