Mumbai: The demand for health insurance policies among insurance companies has increased rapidly. This has happened due to the spread of dangerous corona virus. So far more than 80,000 people have been caught in the spread of this virus from China. The total number of corona virus patients in the country reached 29.

Some insurance companies say that inquiries of new policies have increased by 30-40%. This has happened since new cases of corona virus were reported in Delhi on Sunday. The industry says that due to this, the prices of new schemes will not be immediately affected as the risk-related industry takes decisions based on old data. However, if the outbreak of the virus reaches the level of China in the country, the business of many health and travel insurance companies can be a hit.

Amit Chhabra, business head (health insurance), Policy Bazaar, said, “In the last few days, inquiries from customers for health insurance policies have increased by about 30-40%. A standard policy will cover all subsequent expenses of hospitalization. The government is going to bear the burden of its earlier expenses like checkups etc.

Pankaj Verma, head (market underwriting operation), SBI General Insurance, said, “Whenever a global disease outbreak increases, we have seen that people are vying to cover themselves.” The same has happened after new cases of Corona were revealed. As an insurance company, we are preparing in the current situation in two ways: to find the places where the outbreak is most widespread and what steps can be taken to avoid it.
