New Delhi: If the quality of medicines is found to be poor, now the companies marketing the drugs will also be responsible. The government has issued a notification to change the Drug Cosmetic Act to implement it. Until now, only manufacturing companies had fixed accountability. This rule will come into effect from March next year. The big companies which used to make medicines by making medicines from small companies, now they will also be the responsibility. The new law says that if adulteration in the drug is found, then it will be life sentence.

The Drug Technical Advisory Board, the largest advisory body of the central government, recommended this in the year 2018, those who are drug makers, as well as marketing companies, should be held responsible.

Under the current law, companies that manufacture medicines are considered responsible. Big companies used to take advantage of this. She used to do marketing by taking a license herself, while manufacturing from a small company and escaped. But now under the rules issued by the central government, if the quality of medicines is found to be poor, it can be punishable by three to five years. If the matter turns out to be adulterated, then a provision for life sentence has been made.
