Kolkata: The spread of Corona virus in China is an opportunity for India. Taking advantage of this opportunity, India can beat China in terms of exports. Chief Economic Advisor Krishnamurthy Subramanian says the outbreak of the virus in China could be an opportunity to increase exports to India. India is one of the major trade partners of China in Asia and also has a high trade deficit with China.
Krishnamurthy said, ‘It is very difficult to say what effect it will have on India-China relations in terms of trade. However, the Corona virus definitely gives India a good opportunity to follow the export based model. Krishnamurthy said these things in IIM Calcutta.
He further said, China imports many components and parts and assembles and exports them. He said, ‘India also works on the same pattern in terms of mobile manufacturing. In such a situation, it can be a good opportunity for India if seen from this point of view.
Talking about GDP, Subramanian said that in the Economic Survey it has been estimated to be 6-6.5% in the next financial year. This has been decided on the basis of estimates. The general budget also placed a lot of emphasis on rural consumption and capital expenditure.
