    4.27 crore e-way bills drawn in June

    New Delhi: More than 14 lakh e-way bills were withdrawn daily in June. E-way bill is necessary for transporting goods above Rs 50,000. The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) on Sunday said that 14.26 lakh e-way bills were withdrawn daily in June, which is about 77 percent of the level before the lockdown implemented due to Covid-19.

    GSTN said in a statement that companies and transporters took out 4.27 crore e-way bills in June for goods worth Rs 12.40 lakh crore. This is more than four crore bills drawn in March valued at Rs 11.43 lakh crore. The statement said that it is an indicator of improvement in economic activity after the relaxation of the lockdown. 84.53 lakhs worth 3.90 lakh crore rupees were collected in April and 8.98 lakh crore rupees in May. In comparison, 5.63 crore bills worth Rs 15.39 lakh crore were collected in February from the government portal and 5.61 crore bills worth Rs 15.71 lakh crore in January.

    According to the data, an average of 18.49 lakh e-way bills were withdrawn during January 25 to March 24, 2020. During the first phase of lockdown, from March 25 to April 14, the figure fell sharply to 1.72 lakh bills per day. During Lockdown 2.0, an average of 3.51 lakh e-way bills were withdrawn daily from 15 April to 3 May. During the third phase of lockdown i.e. May 4 to May 14, 6.75 lakh bills were withdrawn daily. In phase four of the lockdown, 9.84 lakh e-way bills were withdrawn from May 15 to May 31. This figure rose to 14.26 lakh bills per day during Unlock 1.0 in June. The lockdown was implemented on March 25 in the country to control the corona virus.
