New Delhi: According to the latest figures of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), around 12.67 lakh new jobs were created in December 2019, compared to 14.59 lakh jobs created in the previous month.
The National Statistics Office (NSO) said in a report that during FY 2018-19, a total of 1.49 crore new employees / workers were enrolled with ESIC. The report also mentioned that approximately 3.50 crore new people joined the ESIC scheme during September 2017 to December 2019.
The NSO report is based on payroll data of new members created under various social security schemes operated by ESIC, EPFO and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). From April 2018, the jobs data is being released based on the data of new members of these three bodies.
According to the latest data, about 3.12 crore new members joined the Employees Provident Fund Scheme from September 2017 to December 2019.
The report noted that since the number of members came from various sources, there may be duplication in the figures. The NSO said that the report gives a different view on the level of employment in the formal sector and this does not indicate employment at the aggregate level.
